KAWS Monograph Now Available

Brian Donnelly, better known by the moniker KAWS, just wrapped his exhibition at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. The artist, who began soaking up the urban scene as a skateboarder in the late '80's, became well known for his graffiti, especially his signature characters with x-ed out eyes and crossed bones that he tagged on a large number of bus stop ads. While sadly the blockbuster show is down, you can see the oeuvre of his work in the newly published Rizzoli monograph!

Notice a change on Bowery & Houston? We hope so. Barry McGee & Josh Lazcano have taken over the Deitch wall space that has played host to various artists (Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, Keith Haring) in the past. Barry & Josh have covered the wall with the signatures of some of the most prominent graffiti masters of our time, topping it off with their very own names. We suggest you stop by the mural and hope that it brings a smile to your faces, even in this heat.

The Thalys highspeed train parked in Paris' Gar du Nord is due for some retouching this September. Thalys, whose trains service France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, commissioned Graffiti artists Jon One 156, SEAK, Sozy, and Zedz to create a series of custom works on their cars. The project, titled Wholetrain, is a giant step towards the legitimization of graffiti art in Europe. In an interview Jon One acknowledged the progressive stance of the European Government, “Only in Europe…Maybe NYC will pay homage to the old school one day." The Wholetrain will run between Paris, Cologne, Brussels, and Amsterdam.
