Starn Brothers: Big Bambú

Twins Mike and Doug Starn are working on an installation for the
Metropolitan Museum roof exhibition space. The brothers supervise a
team of rock climbers who are constructing Big Bambú of nylon ties
and bamboo poles. Visit to watch the structure continue to grow, open April 27th - October 31, 2010.

Salone del Mobile 2010: Swarovski Crystal Palace

At the Milan Furniture Fair last week Swarovski commissioned several artists to interpret lighting design for the annual Swarovski Crystal Palace. Pictured above, Stellar by Tokujin Yoshioka and Dream Cloud by Roger van der Heide. Other Salone del Mobile designers include French designer Gweneal Nicholas, architect Vincent van Duysen, and San Francisco based designer Yves Behar.

Earth Day: Kiehl's Gives Back

Last night in New York Kiehl's celebrated Earth Day with the launch of limited edition packaging for their 100% organic Açai Damage-Protecting Toning Mist. Chris Salgardo, President of Kiehl's USA, was joined by friends including Parker Posey and Brian Donnelly to commemorate designs by Jeff Koons, Julianne Moore, Pharrell Williams and Malia Jones. Proceeds from the celebrity campaign, photographed by David LaChapelle, will go towards the Rainforest Alliance, a non-profit that protects rainforests by teaching businesses and individuals about sustainable practice.

Damien Hirst Curates 'Boogie Woogie'

Boogie Woogie, based on curator and gallery manager Danny Moynihan's comic novel, depicts the contemporary art world in London and the lives and success of the Young British Artists. Damien Hirst is art curator of this fictional film starring Amanda Seyfried, Alan Cumming, Stellan Skarsgard, Gillian Anderson, Joanna Lumley, Heather Graham and Gemma Atkinson. Boogie Woogie opens Friday April 23rd at IFC, 323 6th Ave.

Whitney on Site: New Commissions Downtown

In May, the Whitney Museum will open its new downtown location in the Meatpacking District with a series of large scale commissioned installations. The Whitney has chosen three artists to participate, beginning next month through October with Guyton\Walker, Tauba Auerbach, and Barbara Kruger. Each temporary work will utilize digitally printed vinyl and decals to be mounted on various structures at the site. The Guyton\Walker installation will open for the Whitney's American Art Awards on May 6th and will be open to the public on May 8th through June 23rd.

Deitch at MoCA: 'Art Is Life' Dennis Hopper

Entitled 'Art is Life', Jeffrey Deitch's first show at MoCA will be a review of Dennis Hopper's work curated by Julian Schnabel. Hopper features his own energy as an actor portraying counterculture characters of the 1960s as well as his photography, pop art, and abstract expressionist paintings. The show is sure to be complete with rich cultural imagery and Hollywood favorites. Look out for a potential collaboration with Frank Gehry on exhibition design.

Lone Star Stadium of Art

The new Cowboys stadium in Arlington, TX is filled with site specific privately commissioned paintings, sculptures, and installations by 14 different artists including Mel Bochner, Daniel Buren, Franz Ackermann, Jim Isermann, and Olafur Eliasson. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his wife, Gene, envisioned and supported the premise for the new art stadium, which will host next year's Super Bowl XLV.

Jeff Koons for BMW Art Car Revealed

The new Jeff Koons design for BMW Art Car has been revealed! Koons will sign his car in Paris at the Centre Georges Pompidou on June 1 and then the car will race at Le Mans on June 12 through 13.

Public Deems Lady Gaga More Influential Than Anna Wintour

Time magazine website recently published a public pole to measure the most influential people of 2010. Lady Gaga climbed from No. 54 to No.1, followed by Michelle Obama at No. 14, Snooki at No. 16, and Beyoncé at No. 19. It comes as a surprise that Marc Jacobs and Anna Wintour are found under ranked by these public standards at No. 99 and at No. 122 respectively.
