French photograffeur, or graffiti artist, JR, will be honored by TED as the recipient of the 2011 TED Talk Award. Recognizing "exceptional individuals devoted to changing the world," JR was chosen for his use of artistic self-expression to draw attention to slums in cities around the world. Mounted on deteriorating architecture the black and white photos celebrate local peoples, and have inspired communities around the world to work together to realize the ambitious public art. As part of the award TED grants JR $100,000 to devote to his work. We look forward to the announcement of this inspiring artist's next project in February 2011!
