Welcome to Miami

Last night in Miami Beach, André Balazs and Dom Pérignon were joined by friends including MOCA's Jeffrey Deitch and artist Sante D'Orazio at The Standard to toast the innaugral US sea launch of Marc Newson's Aquariva and kick-off Art Basel Miami Beach. The boat, designed in partnership with Riva, is an edition of 22 and will remain on view at the hotel for the remainder of the art fair. Stay tuned for ARTCO's full coverage of Art Basel!

The Return of Robert Palmer

New York Fashion Week didn't just bring an influx of edge and modernity for next season, but rather some hints of a return to the old school vibe of NYC. With the opening of the new Boom Boom Room at Andre Balazs' the Standard Hotel, one can forget the affiliation of its namesake to focus on the vintage polished glamour, like a scene out of Mad Men. Waitresses were adorned in rich, white silk dresses by Reuben Chapelle, their hair in slick chignons or tightly wound up-do's accentuated with playful silk ribbon. The lovely ladies glided around on opening night to serve cocktails amongst the very best of the local and international art and fashion crowds. Proving the ultimate trifecta of gorgeous decor, the very best music, and jaw-dropping views of this iconic city, The Boom Boom Room may be a vintage-inspired hotspot, but it is most definitely hip, fresh, and now. Balazs Grill Meets High Standards

Officially open to the public this Monday, The Standard Grill, located under the High Line, is the Meat Packing district's latest and greatest. A product of hotelier André Balazs the interior resembles a rustic French Bistro. This week's friends and family tasting attracted a hip crowd of downtown Manhattan insiders, including actress Julianne Moore and photographer Sante D'Orazio, who enjoyed fantastic atmosphere in the back dinning room. Under the culinary direction of Executive Chef Dan Silverman the kitchen serves late night, until 4 am, which will no doubt keep patrons coming back for dishes like their “Million Dollar” whole roast chicken and fries for two.
