The New Museum Dazzles: Spring Gala 2011

Wednesday night, the New Museum celebrated their annual Spring Gala and after party with Interview Magazine at 7 World Trade Center in New York. This year’s honorees included influential artist duo Gilbert & George, as well as philanthropist and collector couple Stefan Edlis and Gael Neeson. The theme of the event was DAZZLE, and dazzle the art world did under custom Swarovski chandeliers of artist's designs! At the end of the night, $1.3 million was raised for the museum, with editions by Josh Smith selling out and the single auction item, a commission for four large format Polaroid portraits by Chuck Close, fetching $250,000 at the hammer of Tobias Meyer. Salone del Mobile 2010: Swarovski Crystal Palace

At the Milan Furniture Fair last week Swarovski commissioned several artists to interpret lighting design for the annual Swarovski Crystal Palace. Pictured above, Stellar by Tokujin Yoshioka and Dream Cloud by Roger van der Heide. Other Salone del Mobile designers include French designer Gweneal Nicholas, architect Vincent van Duysen, and San Francisco based designer Yves Behar.
