Daphne Guinness on Display at Barneys

In preparation for the annual Met Costume Institute Gala to honor this year's Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition, Daphne Guinness was the subject of a fashion-meets-art installation in the Madison Avenue windows of Barneys New York. Appearing first in a glorious gold ensemble, she slipped behind a screen to change into her feathered McQueen frock. The appearance marks the beginning of a six-week collaborative installation with Guinness to showcase pieces from her personal wardrobe collection, as well as the collection of the late Isabella Blow, all at Barneys New York. At the end of the performance Daphne was escorted off to the gala in a Mercedes Benz convertible, so as not to be fashionably late!

Starn Brothers: Big Bambú

Twins Mike and Doug Starn are working on an installation for the

Metropolitan Museum roof exhibition space. The brothers supervise a

team of rock climbers who are constructing Big Bambú of nylon ties

and bamboo poles. Visit to watch the structure continue to grow, open April 27th - October 31, 2010.

Paine on the Roof

On April 28th artist Roxy Paine's largest and most ambitious work to date opens atop the Metropolitan Museum of Art. With Central Park as its backdrop the 130' long by 45' wide stainless-steel sculpture, titled Maelstorm (2009), explores the juxtaposition of nature and industry in our everyday world. Complete with roof garden café it's the perfect spot to enjoy the spring sun... weather permitting. Roxy Paine is represented by James Cohan Gallery here in New York.

Calder's Crown Jewels

Alexander Calder may be known for his celebrated mobiles, stabiles, paintings, and objects d'art, but it's his lesser known jewelry that proves the true gem. An exhibition dedicated to the subject is on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art December 9, 2008 through March 1, 2009. Works included have graced the ears, wrists, and necks of Georgia O'Keefe, Peggy Guggenheim, and the wives of artists Marcel Duchamp and Joan Miró among others.
